The Gering city council Monday evening approved a conditional use permit to allow for small cottage homes to be built in a multi-family residential zoning area on a lot at 315 N Street behind StageCoach Stop convenience store.
The council unanimously approved the request by convenience store owner Kent Ewing after he provided city staff with a purchase agreement to show he had a legal property interest. Ewing will now go before the Gering Board of Adjustment Tuesday to discuss his request for variances on the city’s recommended lot and home sizes.
The council Monday night also approved a fiscal 2016-17 budget that includes the first decline in the mill levy in twelve years. The one cent reduction moves the city’s levy to under twenty nine cents and aids in reducing the total property tax request by $7,000. Overall the budget increased by two and a half percent.
The council also approved formation of a citizen committee to provide education to the public regarding the one half cent sales tax ballot issue in November.
