Scotts Bluff County’s low turnout in Tuesday’s primary election is not sitting well with long-time County Clerk Vera Dulaney, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Dulaney told KNEB News the lack of responsibility by the county voters was “unexplainable and disappointing to me as an election  commissioner” because of all the work done by her office to get ready for an election.  Dulaney said “it’s disappointing people don’t take voting serious when they should. ”

Scotts Bluff County’s turnout was one of the five lowest among the 93 counties in the state.

Dulaney also said  counting provisional ballots and going through the process to make Tuesday’s primary election official will take some time.

Dulaney says she knows there are local races that are too close to call, but providing an answer on winners soon  is not going to happen. She said,” An election is always unofficial until it is declared official and that doesn’t happen just right away the next day. There are several races we need to look at and we will be doing that as well.”

Dulaney says it will take into next week until the election is official and she says anything more about the close races.

Pamela Schleve-Cassels and Kelly Sides are one vote apart after the unofficial tally Tuesday night in the Scotts Bluff County Clerk Republican primary. Incumbent  Brian Taylor and challenger Paul Murrell are tied for second spot in the Mitchell Mayor contest where two people advance to the general election. And Commissioner Mark Reichert is only five votes ahead of challenger Mick Lookabill in the District One Republican primary.
