Dannebrog, Neb. — Fire destroyed a home four miles west of Dannebrog  in Howard County on Sunday afternoon, displacing a family of three. The fire occurred at 367 N. State Hwy. 11. Dannebrog Fire Chief Terry Webb says the fire was reported around 3:00 p.m. as a structure fire with flames coming out of the back of the home…

Chief Webb says Dannebrog’s forces had their hands full with the fire since they also had to contend with winds sustained at 28 mph., gusting between 36 and 40 mph. So, Webb says mutual assistance was requested and supplied by  all Howard County Fire Departments including; Boelus, Farwell, Elba, St. Paul & St. Libory as well as Cairo in Hall County.  Webb says three family members were in the home at the time the fire was first reported, but they were able to make it out of the house safely. Two vehicles were removed from the garage before the fire was too far along. Unfortunately, a family dog died. The Nebraska State Fire Marshal investigated the fire and determined it was caused by a heat lamp. There’s no solid estimate of the damage as of yet. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the family.
