Cuming County Included In Weekend Blizzard Warning

Cuming, Thurston and Colfax Counties are included in the  Blizzard Warning issued by the National Weather Service for this weekend.  It’s in  effect from noon Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday.

That includes the cities of Pender, Macy, Walthill, Winnebago, West Point, Wisner and Schuyler.  We’re already under a Winter Weather Advisory until then.

We’ll see mixed precipitation through Saturday morning with blizzard conditions expected Saturday afternoon into Saturday night with total snow accumulations of two  to six inches, along  with a light glaze of .10 inches of ice accumulation possible.  Winds will be gusty up to 35 to 50 miles per hour Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

Plan on slippery roads becoming very hazardous or impassable Saturday afternoon and evening. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility and the gusty winds may bring down tree branches and cause power outages.  Expect  white-out conditions at times.

If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you.  And if you get stranded, stay with  your vehicle.

Check the weather tab above  for the latest road conditions and closings and cancellations.
