Couple closes Flower Shop after 39 years in the business

A couple who owned and operated Flower Shops in Arlington and Fremont called it career last month, closing their flower shop in Fremont. Co-Owner Joyce Stork says her and her husband, Kent, opened their first flower shop almost four decades ago.

“We opened 39 years ago over in Arlington, and at that time, we had been both been teachers. I continued to teach so we had a little income to start with, and Kent kept the shop going. He had done some training earlier just at working at other flower shops, and that was how we got our start.”

Stork says Kent’s Flowers opened their Fremont location in 1990, and operated both stores until 1992, when they closed the Arlington store.

She really enjoyed working with the customers.

“Just working with the flowers was a wonderful thing. And probably the best thing though was just meeting the customers and being able to do the things that the customers wanted. And maybe for me the best part was when the customer didn’t know what they wanted, and then after we talked a little bit, we found something that was better than they ever dreamed it could be.”

Stork says they closed doors to their Fremont Shop on August 28th.
