The West Point City Council approved the design and engineering phase of the trails and pathways committee project at last night’s council meeting following a presentation by John Zwingman of Advanced Consulting and Engineering Services.
The portion of the trail through Wilderness Park will be eight feet wide and five inches thick and match existing terrain as much as possible.
They hope to put out bids sometime within the next couple of months and construction could be started this fall.
The goal is to have the trail finished by the end of 2019.
The council also finished up the Northeast Community College lease agreement. It’s an inter-local agreement between the city of West Point and Northeast Community College. It’s a five year lease for the Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Training Facility.
The second document passed was a collaboration agreement which outlines all the partners in the process to construct the facility. That covers all the things needed to be in place to construct the facility, finalize the funding and have the ability to turn it over to West Point for operations and to complete the lease.
