NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College will offer additional Heart Code – Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid On-line Skills Sessions.

Three testing sessions – Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid (HLTH 5130/19S & CRN #70294); Heartsaver CPR/AED – Adult, Infant and Child (HLTH 5150/19S & CRN #70295); Heartsaver First Aid (HLTH 5105/19S & CRN #70293) will be held Saturday, May 25, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Arlo Wirth building, Room 101, on the Norfolk campus.

The Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course CPR/AED (testing sessions will cover any of the combinations as listed above) – teaching rescuers to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and choking for adults, children and infant victims, use an AED and First Aid – teaching management of certain environmental reactions; allergic reactions, cuts, wounds, bites, and various situations requiring treatments.

The on-line course is designed for the first time or renewal certification. This course is accessible 24 hours a day and provides a flexible alternative to classroom training for the course itself. After completing this course, students are eligible to register for the testing session. Online key codes for Part 1 (online course) are available at the Hawks Shop in the Norfolk campus Student Center, (402)-844-7140. Students will need to bring their AHA Online Course Completion Certificate (within 60 days) to be admitted to the Skills Testing Session. No textbook is required for this class.

Cost of the testing session, with Ethan Larson, is $54.50.

PONCA – Northeast Community College will offer a Provisional Operator’s Permit Driver Training course later this month in Ponca.

Drivers Education (TRAN 5110 & CRN #70226/70227) will meet each day from Tuesday, May 28, to Friday, May 31, from 8 am.-1 p.m. The required lab hours of driving experience will be arranged between the student and instructor. A parent meeting will be announced at a later date.

This is a Provisional Operators Permit (POP) driver training course for individuals 14-17 years old. Students much have a learner’s or school permit and must bring it with them to the first class. Nebraska residents who successfully complete this course will have the drive test waived at the courthouse.

Cost of the class, which includes a textbook, is $295. Dan Loofe is the instructor.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College has scheduled another Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) class to be held later this month.

The course (HLTH 5500/19S & CRN #70341) will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28 and 29, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Room at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Avenue in Norfolk.

This course encompasses knowledge and techniques which are utilized in the definitive management of a cardiac arrest or similar life-threatening emergency. Participation in this course enables the registrant to review didactic material as well as practice lifesaving techniques and skills under the direction of an instructor in a simulated situation.

Completion of this program is based on criteria established by the American Heart Association. Pre-course requirements include review of manual and completion of ACLS pre-course online self-assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring it to class, along with their current Basic Life Support CPR card.

Cost of the class is $180. A book is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.
