WEST POINT – A new class next month at Northeast Community College in West Point will give participants the chance to decorate flip flops with fun embellishments.

Fabulous Flip Flops! (HOEC 5135/17F & CRN #60178) meets Tuesday, September 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Room 201 of the West Point extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will make a one-of-a-kind pair of flip flops with Instructor Brenda Nissen. They are asked to bring a pair of flip flops, 1/6 yard of any cotton fabric, fabric scissors and two matching buttons at least one inch across.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a course in basic IV therapy next month.

Basic IV Therapy (NURA 5135/17F & CRN #60273) will be held Wednesday, September 6, from 8 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point extended campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue. Karen Weidner is the instructor.

Upon conclusion of the basic IV therapy course, learners will identify legal issues and scope of practice changes related to IV therapy and explore best practices related to IV therapy (peripheral and central care). The activity has been submitted to the Washington State Nurses Association Approver of Continuing Nursing Education (A-CNE) for approval to award contact hours. The Washington State Nurses Association Approver of Continuing Nursing Education (A-CNE) is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class on social media next month.

Social Media (INFO 5155/17F & CRN #60175) will meet Thursday, September 7, from 6-9 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Ave.

This class is ideal for those wishing to join social media but aren’t sure how to start. Participants will explore Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. They will learn how to set up accounts, apply privacy and security settings, find friends and start sharing photos and comments.

Cost of the class, with Laci Fitch the instructor, is $30.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College will offer additional Advanced Cardiac Life Support Renewal courses during the month of September.

The course is available on three separate dates. The first option (HLTH 5505/17F & CRN #60046) will meet Wednesday, September 6; the second option (HLTH 5505/17F & CRN #60071) meets Friday, September 8; and the third option (HLTH 5505/17F & CRN #60074) will be held Tuesday, September 19. All classes will meet 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Faith Regional Health Services, 2700 W. Norfolk Avenue, in Norfolk.

The ACLS Renewal course is open to healthcare professionals who have completed the ACLS Provider Course within the last two years and have a current Basic Life Support card. Pre-course Requirements: Review of Manual, review of information on student CD, completion of ACLS Pre-Course Self-Assessment test. Participants are asked to print their test score and bring to class. In addition, please bring your current BLS CPR card.

NORFOLK – An upcoming class at Northeast Community College will offer students the essentials of Microsoft Word and word processing.

Microsoft Word 2016 – Level 1 (INFO 5120/17F & CRN #60177), meets Tuesday and Thursday, September 5 and 7, from 1-4 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast Community College campus.

Students will learn the essentials of Microsoft Word and word processing in this class taught by Chad Miller. Participants will be taught how to create, navigate and save documents, apply character and paragraph formatting, insert symbols, and create headers and footers. They will be taught how to check spelling and grammar, add page breaks, work with document views, and learn how to print and convert documents to PDF.

Cost of the class is $60.

NORFOLK – A new course beginning soon at Northeast Community College is designed to help small businesses keep up with social media, graphic design needs and video promotion

Social Media Marketing: Video Making For Small Businesses (ARTS 5143/17F & CRN #60190) will be held Wednesdays, September 6-27, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Room 145 of the Maclay Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course will introduce participants to video editing, basic photo and graphics editing and Facebook/Twitter banner designing using the Adobe Suite. They will use Adobe Premiere Pro to craft a promotion video or commercial, and Adobe Photoshop to edit images and graphics.

Participants are asked to bring a 16 GB flash drive and copies of current business card, logo, letterhead and design elements for use in assignments and projects.

Cost of the class, with Nancy Sutton-Smith the instructor, is $125.

NORFOLK – A new course at Northeast Community College will welcome the fall and winter seasons with a wood pallet decoration class.

Reversible Wood Pallet Scarecrow/Snowman Decoration (HOEC 5135/17F & CRN #60301) will be held Thursday, September 7, from 6-9 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

Participants will make a simple and attractive fall and/or winter decoration for the home. Using wood pallets, paint, and a little creativity, they will create a reversible scarecrow/snowman decoration. Instructor Russell Flaming will walk participants through the planning and construction stages, and the projects will be assembled and painted in class.

Cost of the class is $40. All supplies are included.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City will offer a 12 weekend Professional Truck Driving class that will begin in September.

The course (TRDR 5100/17F & CRN #60149/60150) will be held Fridays-Sundays, September 8-December 3, in Room 132 at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 1001 College Way. The class will meet Friday evenings from 6-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The professional truck driving field ranks among the top professions in the number of job openings each year. Reports estimate that approximately 225,000 new drivers will be needed in the next few years. Starting salaries for truck drivers in Nebraska are $35,000-$50,000 a year.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane, and interstate highways.

Students must be at least 18-years of age, pass a Department of Transportation physical examination, and have a valid driver’s license and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) learner’s permit. A copy of driving record for the past three years is also required. According to federal regulation, drivers must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the public and government officials. The COMPASS/ESL test will be provided.

Cost for the course, with Rodney Warnock the instructor, is $1,995. Textbook for the class, which is available at the College Center bookstore, is approximately $90.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce students to a fun way to keep fit.

Zumba! (HPER 5115/17F & CRN #60168) meets Thursdays, September 7-28, from 5:30-6:15 p.m., in Room 126 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

A combination of Latin dance and other forms of dance fitness, Zumba is easy to learn and always a blast. Join Instructor Jenny Durant as she covers easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program.

Cost of the class is $30.
