Wiedeman defeats Doll in Gering Ward One council race; results to be certified Thursday

Scotts Bluff County Clerk Vera Dulaney says while it will be Thursday before the local canvassing board has an opportunity to certify the election, the final numbers after counting 352 provisional ballots, it has been determined that Susan Wiedeman has defeated Alan Doll in the Gering City Council Ward One race.

Wiedeman was leading Doll by three votes pending the counting of those provisional ballots, which involve voters who had registration issues on election day because they failed to change their address .

With the provisional ballots counted, Wiedeman had 527 total votes, compared to Doll’s 518 votes.

Dulaney says once the election results are certified, Doll would have to request a recount at his cost. Doll has indicated he is not planning to request a recount.

An automatic recount would have been triggered if Doll had been within  five votes or one percent of the total votes needed to win, which in this case was the 527 votes that Wiedeman received.
