Just after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was notified and responded to a report of a building having collapsed on a 56-year-old man about eight miles northwest of Howells.
Chris Pfeifer was working on moving an outbuilding on his farm place, when for unknown reasons it collapsed on him pinning him underneath.
After more than two hours of being trapped he was able to call 911 for help using his cell phone. He was extricated from the underneath the building by Howells Fire and Rescue using airbags and cribbing and was then flown directly from the scene to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha by Life Net medical helicopter for treatment of critical injuries.
Stanton County Roads Department also assisted on the scene.
