NORFOLK – Sapp Brothers Petroleum in Norfolk, in conjunction with the Nebraska Soybean Board, held an open house and unveiling on Wednesday, August 30 for a new biodiesel vault tank, located about eight miles north of Norfolk on Highway 81.

“We put in a 30,000 gallon vault tank to hold B99 soy oil and basically what we’re doing, is we want to be able to provide a cleaner burning fuel for our customers that prefer to run biodiesel,” said Shane Burns, General Manager of Sapp Brothers in Norfolk. “There could possibly be a substantial amount of savings per gallon throughout the course of the year. This year it’s not been as much savings, but forward-looking, next year it looks like there could be a very good possibility that savings could be very substantial.”

Burns says the new vault tank will allow them to sell soy oil to customers and competitors alike.

“We provide it to our customers and competitors. We’d love to sell them the soy oil so they could sell to their customers if they so choose,” Burns said. “Basically we just wanna be on the forefront in the area in kind of get the ball rolling on the biodiesel and to help out the farmers as well.”

The brand new facility, which includes the 30,000 gallon tank as well as offices and more was built on a lot that Sapp Bros. has owned for a long time.

During the open house on Wednesday, attendees were treated to free refreshments, as well as tours of the facility.

Sapp Bros. has locations across the state, including West Point, Columbus and Elgin, as well as in other states.
