The West Point City Council reviewed proposed rules and regulations for Mount Hope Cemetery at Tuesday night’s meeting, but took no action. City Administrator Tom Goulette says the city wants to hear from more people before moving forward. “We’re looking for feedback from those that are involved with the cemetery as to the rules and regulations. We got some feedback tonight from several that the council is going to take under consideration. And we’re still trying to work our way through how that cemetery’s structured, just trying to put something together that we can all work with.”
Goulette says Cemetery Preservation is one reason why the city is currently in the information gathering phase.
And as a reminder, city offices are closed on the 4th of July.
The council also approved use of City Streets for a 5K Fun Run in September. “Yeah that’s correct. Chet McWhorter was here representing the Power District. They’re looking at doing the fun run. And it’s going to basically from the Power District up towards North Main Street through the park. I think it will be a well orchestrated fun run, and it will be a good event for the city,” Goulette said.
The Fun Run is set for Saturday, September 22nd, and will start at 8:00 or 8:30 a.m., according to McWhorter.
The Council also set a budget workshop for Tuesday, July 31st at 5:00 p.m.
Also, Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska Department of Transportation will be in West Point on Friday at 1:30 p.m. for a Press Conference in Council Chambers.
