Micah House in Council Bluffs is expanding its shelter and services. Executive Director Jaymes Sime. “Yeah we are renovating some space inside Micah House to add a Women’s Shelter on our second floor so that will have 10 rooms and 26 beds for single females. And we’ll have some pretty specific services like therapy, case management, and other services to offer those women.”
Sime says Micah House is also partnering with a Federally Qualified Health Center to build a 1,100 sq ft. Health Clinic.
Micah House is a Homeless Shelter serving Single Women and families in the Omaha Metro Area and all of Southwest Iowa.
Funds are currently being raised for the $3.6 million project. “We’re doing a campaign so actually we’re raising construction costs, we’re getting some operating costs because obviously with adding services we’re adding quite a few staff members in it. We’re growing the capacity of Micah House by getting some endowment funds because as you know we provide our service at no cost to those we serve so it’s very important that we have funds available to see our mission through now and into the future.”
Anyone interested in making a donation can do so at themicahouse.org or by calling Micah House at 712-323-4416.
Sime says construction is expected to start on July 10th and be finished sometime in November with a goal of opening by New Years Day.
