Master of Ceremonies Keith Meiergerd
A large crowd enjoyed the “Ag Appreciation Banquet” at the Nielsen Community Center in West Point on Tuesday night.
The annual event is designed to thank producers and to honor the American heritage of farming.
West Point Mayor Marlene Johnson read a “National Agriculture Day Declaration,”
Following the meal, the keynote speaker was Eric Snodgrass from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois.
Snodgrass successfully mixed science, meteorology and humor.
He pointed out many “bloopers” and inconsistencies in recent movies about tornadoes and storms.
Meteorological highlights that Snodgrass touched on were the Fujita-Pearson Scale for measuring tornado intensity, utilizing weather satellites 36,000 miles from Earth, and storm chasing.
