Sheriff Mark Overman says a man is in custody following a pursuit that started  in Scotts Bluff County shortly after 11 p.m.  last night  and ended near Bayard.

Overman says  a Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a red Toyota Tacoma pickup that had been reported stolen in Colorado.

The driver refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit that at times exceeded 100 mph. The pursuit continued east on Highway 26 into Morrill County, and ended when the vehicle lost control and rolled several times in a field near the intersection of Highway 26 and Highway 92 south of Bayard.

Overman says a man  ran from the scene and was located by the Deputy hiding a short distance away. The man  suffered some non-life threatening injuries as a result of the vehicle rolling, and was transported to Regional West Medical Center by ambulance. He was released and taken to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

Overman says the man identified himself as “Devin James Martinez,” , but the Sheriff’s office is working  with Colorado authorities to confirm his identity.

Officers located a small amount of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the stolen vehicle.

The Nebraska State Patrol assisted in the investigation.
