Lincoln, Neb. — An Exeter man, 30 year old Aaron Ogren, has been charged in connection with the discovery of hundreds of dead and ailing or neglected cattle at his farm in southern Nebraska’s Fillmore County.

Ogren made an appearance in Fillmore County Court Wednesday. He was charged with one count of theft, two counts of prohibited sale of livestock and 26 counts of cruelty to animals. Last week, investigators found more than 200 deceased cattle and one deceased horse on Ogren’s property near Exeter. His bail was set Wednesday at $300,000.

The cattle in poor condition were taken to a nearby ranch for care.

The charges follow a collaborative investigation by the Nebraska Brand Committee, Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol.
