As a tie-in to both the Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon and the City of Scottsbluff’s “Downtown Bash”, the very first BBQ Cook-Off event will be taking place in the 18th Street Mini-Park parking lot this Saturday.
Organizer Bob Hessler said he was approached about organizing an event to tie-in with both activities. He said it didn’t take long to find support for bringing the event together. Sponsors for the event include Twin-City Roofing, Budge-It Drain Service, Wilburn Transmissions, B & C Steel, Kelley Bean, The Rock Pile, Allo Communications, Safetyline Consultants, and the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge.
Hessler says check-in time will be from 5:30 to 8:00 a.m. Saturday.
The Cook-Off will be open to the public at 4 p.m. Saturday, judging starts at 4:30 and food tasting at 5 p.m. Food tasting tickets will be $10 at the gate.
For those wishing to participate in the Cook-Off, registration is $15 for Baked Beans, $25 for Ribs, and $25 for Brisket. Hessler said there will be cash payouts of $400 each for first place in Brisket and Ribs, and $200 for the best Baked Beans. If you do want to cook in the event, you must register by today at 631-0076.
