Willis G Paulsen, age 76 of rural Lyons, Ne. passed away Sat Feb 10th.

Memorial Service will be  Wednesday, February 14th, 10:30 a.m.at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.  Memorial Visitation with family receiving friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons.

Willis Gene Paulsen was born March 30, 1941, at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, to Allen Andrew and Esther Marie (Pearson) Paulsen. Willis lived his entire life on the family farm southeast of Lyons, where he passed peacefully Saturday, February 10, 2018.

Willis was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Oakland, where he was a member until 1970 transferring his membership to Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.

Willis attended Viles country school for seven years before attending Lyons community schools, graduating form Lyons High School in 1958. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, before returning to the family farm. Willis enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves September 1964 and was honorably discharged November 1969.

On November 19, 1966, Willis and Sandi Lynn (Johnson) were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church in Oakland.  They had two sons, Scott Allen and Daniel William. Willis was a committed conservationist, raising livestock, various crops, as well as running the Paulsen Certified Seed business. He also was a courtesy driver for Woodhouse of Blair for 16 years.

Willis and Sandi attended every sporting event and school activity Scott and Dan were involved in.  He was a lifelong dedicated Husker fan, as well as an avid fan of his grandchildren activities. Attending their dance recitals, school concerts, volleyball tournaments, recreational sports, cross country, track meets and softball games.

Willis was very involved in his community, serving 16 years on both Lyons Public School and Lyons-Decatur Northeast School Boards, Lyons Industrial Development committee, Lyons Community Club, Bethany Church Council and Superintendent of Bethany Sunday School, Nebraska Crop Improvement Director. Willis was named Young Farmer of the year and awarded the Conservation Steward Award.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Esther Paulsen; and his brother, Arnold Paulsen.

Willis is survived by his wife, Sandi of Lyons; sons, Scott (Suzanne) Paulsen of Omaha, NE and Daniel (Carol) Paulsen of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Bryce and Nicole Paulsen; three step-grandchildren, Jeffery, Brittany and Elizabeth Stevens; five step-great grandchildren, A’Treal, Christopher, Eli, Brecken and Maelynn; his sister, Elaine Brandt of St. Paul, MN; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
