Nebraska Safety Center offers training for truck driving career

Truck Drivers are in high demand at the present time and will be in the foreseeable future.

Nebraska Safety Center CDL in Ag Training Manager Dennis Holtz says that goes for the national and local levels.

"Right now we have, and in the next foreseeable future, there is quite a shortage both for the long haul companies or the national companies. And also local companies that need drivers for delivery routes, etc. There's a pretty good demand for those type of drivers too."

Holtz says many companies will hire people upon completion of a professional truck driver program, offered at the Safety Center.

The program is ongoing.

"Our professional drivers program is an ongoing program. We have students starting in that all the time. And a student can start at anytime, in that we kind of get them grouped together after they get going."

Holtz says the majority of the classroom training is done online. Behind the wheel driving and labs are done in Kearney. The program takes around 8 weeks to complete.

The Safety Center, located on the UNK Campus, also offers CDL Third Party Testing Services and Defensive Driving Courses.
