Finalists named for UNL Panhandle Director

The hiring for a new director for the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center and District is getting closer.

The search has been narrowed down to three finalists: John A. Paterson, Executive Director of producer education for National Cattlemen's Beef Association, Patrick Carr, professor and cropping systems specialist for North Dakota State University, Dickenson and Jack Whittier Professor and extension beef specialist at Colorado State University.

In a interview with KNEB/Rural Radio Network, Interim Director Dr. Gary Hergert says right now they are the midst of the interview process.

Once a new permanent director is in place, then UNL will resume the search for a dryland cropping specialist, irrigation specialist and range and forage specialist. Hergert says UNL is also preparing for several retirements. Weed specialist Dr. Bob Wilson will be retiring at the end of the 2014. Hergert, a soil systems specialist and Alex Pavlista. Crop Physiologist and Potato Specialist, are also looking to retire in the next few years.
