Paxton-area man dies in apparent drowning at Sutherland Reservoir
A 49-year-old Paxton-area man is dead after an apparent accidental drowning at Sutherland Reservoir Saturday.
Corporal Merrit Newman with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office told the North Platte Telegraph that emergency responders were called to the reservoir about 5:40 Saturday night to the possible drowning.
The victim was apparently camping near Omaha Beach, and was found unresponsive by family members. CPR was performed, and he was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, where he was pronounced dead.
Newman told the Telegraph that at this point he believes the man drowned, but added that the investigation is not complete, as authorities are interviewing witnesses and still notifying all the next-of-kin.
