Kerrey lashes out at charges he is not a Nebraskan

Democratic Senate Candidate Bob Kerrey blistered charges that he is not a Nebraskan during an appearance at Oregon Trail Days Saturday.

An essay written by Kerrey's wife Sarah in Vogue magazine once again indicated she was not enthralled with him getting back into politics and raised questions about how much she wanted to spend time in the state.

The former Nebraska Governor and U.S Senator has lived in New York for over a decade but he told KNEB News Saturday that does not mean he and his family have tossed away his Nebraska roots.

Kerrey said, "This whole idea that I am not a Nebraskan any longer is somewhere between a lie and nonsense. I have businesses and family in Nebraska, and I employ between eleven and twelve hundred people."

Kerrey added, "I've been back and forth to Nebraska, Sarah and Henry have been with me on many occasions, and just because the press doesn't see me when I am coming and going doesn't mean I haven't been here."

In regards to his wife, Kerrey said, "Sarah has been back a lot, likes the people and likes the state. Just because she doesn't like politics does not make her unusual."

Kerrey initially indicated he was not running for the seat due to family concern but announced later his wife had consented to his running despite reluctance to get the family involved in politics.
