Kenneth Miller, age 72, of Rising City, Nebraska

Kenneth Miller, age 72, of Rising City, Nebraska passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Butler County Healthcare Center in David City. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, Nebraska with services conducted by Reverend Michael Klatt & Reverend Cory W. Burma. Committal with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Circle Mound Cemetery at Rising City, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday morning one hour prior to service time at the church. A family prayer services will be held at 10:15 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Peace Lutheran Church or to the Butler County Healthcare Center. Condolences may be sent to the family at wwwrebluejeans.com. Kenny was born November 11, 1941, in Rising City to Kenneth D. and Martha Mae (Pieters) Miller. He graduated from David City High School in 1959 and earned a degree in Diesel Mechanics from the Milford Trade School.  He then served in the United States Navy, active duty for 2 years and then served in the reserves.  

On November 24, 1961, he married Virginia Schirmer at First English Lutheran Church in Rising City.  After his service in the Navy they lived in Grand Island for two years where he worked for Caterpillar. They then moved north of Rising City and farmed until retiring.

Kenny loved anything that had to do with children and had served as President of the David City School Board and was past President of the State School Board Association.  He was a member of the David City Boosters, the Jaycees, VFW Post #5814 of David City and American Legion Post #125. He had served as an usher at Trinity Lutheran in Columbus, was Past Council President of Hope Lutheran and was now belonged to Peace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Rising City, a daughter, Renae
(Mike) Negley, Lincoln, two sons: Tom (Debbie) and Rob (Angie) all of Papillion, two sisters;Geraldine Gruenewald, Surprise, Arizona and Marilyn (Bill) Peters, Thorton Colorado and 8 grandchildren; Greg (Stephanie) Miller, Katie and Sarah Miller, Brandon, Tyler, and Gavin Negley and Danny and Lindsay Miller, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Brenda Cestia.
