Fire north of Potter burns 3,000 acres
A fire north of Potter is fully-contained, but not after burning nearly 3,000 acres.
Ron Leal, Region 21 Emergency Management Director, said the fire, which was caused by lightning, was reported at 12:22 p.m. Sunday afternoon 13 miles north and a half-mile east of Potter.
Leal said the fire burned five or six canyons, but firefighters did a "tremendous" job containing the fire to the east of a trail road.
Leal said that there are still several hot spots up in the canyons that fire personnel are working on today, but they are in areas where trucks cannot reach.
Seven fire departments and about 70 fire fighters from Potter, Gurley, Banner County, Bridgeport, Dix, Dalton, and Sidney battled the blaze.
There were no structures that were lost in the fire.
