Arrest warrants filed in Geurts homicide case
Warrants have now been filed in Scotts Bluff County District Court for the arrest of the two people indicted last week by a Scotts Bluff County Grand Jury regarding the July 11th, 2008 death of two year old Juliette Geurts of Gering.
26 year old Dustin Chauncey, who was sentenced last Friday in Boulder County, Colorado to four years in prison on unrelated firearm and drug charges, is charged in the Geurts case with child abuse resulting in death and involuntary manslaughter. Juliette's mother Charyse Guerts is charged with being an accessory to a felony and providing false information. Authorities believe she is in Wisconsin.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman told KNEB News Wednesday that "based on what I know I do not anticipate any problem" serving the arrest warrants. The court has ordered bond for Chauncey at $500,000, with a 10% cash provision. The bond on Geurts is $50,000 with a 10% provision.
Geurts, Chauncey and another male were in the Gering home when Charyse reported she found Juliette dead in her crib on July 11th, 2008. The case has been investigated as a homicide after the autopsy showed the child died of blunt force trauma.
