Farm Bureau Brings the Heat on the Farm Bill
During the Missouri State Fair - the American Farm Bureau Federation, Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri U.S. Senator Roy Blunt and Representative Vicky Hartzler held a news conference urging Congress to pass a Farm Bill. Farm Bureau Farm Policy Specialist Mary Kay Thatcher joined the farm leaders and lawmakers to promote AFBF's grassroots campaign Bring the Heat - which focuses on the farm bill, ag labor reform and passage of waterways improvement legislation. Senator Blunt says farmers and ranchers work hard every day to help feed the nation and the world - and he will continue fighting to ensure farmers and ranchers receive the economic certainty they need in order to succeed.
Thatcher says farmers and ranchers are hot around the collar at Congress for putting politics before progress on issues like the farm bill - which is why Farm Bureau members across the U.S. are bringing the heat to their Congressional members during the August recess - letting them know a farm bill must be signed into law this fall. She asks all farmers and ranchers to tell their Congressmen and women to move quickly to pass a farm bill before the 2008 law expires at the end of September.
