Dawes County Attorney suffers broken foot in accident
Dawes County Attorney Vance Haug will be off the job for the next few weeks as he recovers from a broken foot suffered Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle was hit by a car on the west side of Chadron.
The 47-year old Haug, county attorney since 1996, suffered serious fractures in 2 major bones of his foot that required surgery at Rapid City Regional Hospital, with doctors inserting screws to hold the bones while they knit back together.
Haug told his staff that his doctors have not given him a firm timetable on returning home, only that they wanted to keep him in the hospital for a few days.
Haug's son Zack was on the motorcycle with him, but escaped serious injury...suffering only bumps, bruises, and scrapes. Haug was cited for failure to yield the right of way in the accident.
Dawes County contracts with Harrison attorneys Joe Stecher and Adam Edmund to serve as deputies to Haug, and they will take over his duties until he returns.
