Attorneys Hired For Investigation Into Fremont Police Incident

The Fremont Civil Service Commission voted this week to accept the recommendation of the City Attorney to select Stanton Beeder of Cline, Williams Wright, Johnson & Oldfather and Jeffrey Gaertig of Carlson, Schafer & Davis to conduct a review and investigation regarding the Fremont Police Department's actions stemming from an incident that occurred in December of 2012.

18-year-old Jacob Dickmeyer, of Valley was killed in a drunk-driving accident after allegedly drinking with off-duty police officers in Waterloo.

20-year-old Amanda Heiman was convicted on a felony count of procuring alcohol for a minor resulting in death. She was sentenced in April to two years probation and possibility of a month in jail.

City officials were aware of the incident since several days after it occurred, but wanted to wait on an investigation until after the criminal case was settled.
