Body Found In Omaha Area Landfill Identified
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office was called to the Douglas County Landfill located at 13505 North 216th Street Wednesday at approximately 6:30 a.m. to investigate a possible body that was found covered by trash dumped from a Deffenbaugh trash truck.
Sheriff's investigators arrived with the Crime Scene Investigation Division (CSI) and confirmed that a victim appeared to have been picked up by a trash truck working commercial pickups and was subsequently dumped from the trash truck as the driver dumped the load.
As the driver dumped the load he saw what appeared to be the victim's legs sticking from the trash. It was at that time that the Sheriff's Office was notified.
The victim has been identified by tattoos and fingerprints as Lewis Doss of 3025 Meredith Ave.
At this time it is unknown how Doss ended up inside a dumpster. Sheriff Investigators are working to locate each trash pickup location to search for additional evidence.
It appears that the Deffenbaugh driver was unaware that Doss was inside a dumpster as it was picked up. Deffenbaugh Industries and Douglas County Environmental Service officials are working with the Sheriff's Office to complete the investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
