Oshkosh man to face charges May 3rd

A 65 year old Oshkosh man will face six counts of neglect causing the death of an animal when he appears in Garden County Court May 3rd at 1 p.m. Harry Cross has been identified as the owner of six horses that were found dead on Easter Sunday west of Oshkosh due to dehydration or starvation. A seventh horse was found alive, but died a short time later.

The Sheriff's report says the horses had not been checked for twenty two days. The horses were found lying near a stock tank after a well had apparently stopped pumping and gone dry. Garden County Attorney Pierce says there is no indication why the horses had not been checked for such a long period.

Pierce says someone from the family that owns neighboring land observed the situation and reported it to law enforcement. The horses range in age from a foal less than a month old to a mare twelve to thirteen years old.
