Veterans Memorial Will Be Dedicated In Northeast Nebraska

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (AP) - A half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington will be dedicated in South Sioux City.

The Sioux City Journal reports visitors already have been stopping by the memorial in South Sioux City ahead of Wednesday's 5 p.m.
ceremony.

Mike Newhouse, president of the Siouxland Freedom Park, says he expects a lot of veterans to attend the event.

The 250-foot black granite wall is believed to be the only replica that duplicates the design of the memorial in Washington. The granite came from the same quarry in India.

The wall completes the first phase of a $4 million, 55 acre park dedicated to those who served and died for the United States. Organizers have plans for a 12,000-square-foot interpretive center.

A 150-foot-tall flagpole also will be dedicated Wednesday.
