Veterans Designation Now Available On NE Drivers License
(Lincoln, Neb.) - Today, Gov. Dave Heineman presented veterans with driver's licenses that held the new veteran designation. Veterans could apply to add the new designation to their driver license or state identification card as of July1st of this year. The designation was made possible by the passage of LB 93 signed in to law by Governor Heineman on June 4, 2013.
"Veterans have given and continue to give much to the state of Nebraska," said Governor Heineman. "This is one more way we can recognize and honor them and the veterans designation on a driver's license will help show appreciation to the veterans of Nebraska for their service and sacrifice."
The Governor presented the driver's license to four Nebraska Veterans with the new designation. They were World War II veteran Joseph Vocelka, Korea War veteran Richard Aube, Vietnam War veteran Grace Ford and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran Kimberly Mahlberg.
"Nebraska is now one of the majority of states adding a veterans designation to the driver license," says Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. "We are glad to be able to participate in a practice which acknowledges Nebraska's veterans."
"The Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to be able to work with Nebraska veterans and assist them in adding a veteran designation to their driver license, said John Hilgert, Director of the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs and Division Director of the Division of Veterans Homes, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. "We are grateful for the County Veteran Service Officers and the Veteran Service Organizations for their assistance with this effort."
