President Obama Calls for Farm Bill Action in Weekly Address
In his weekly address this weekend - President Obama highlighted three places where he believes Democrats and Republicans in Congress can work together right away. He called on lawmakers to sit down and pursue a balanced budget approach to a responsible budget, to finish the job of fixing the nation's broken immigration system and to pass a farm bill. President Obama said the farm bill should be one America's farmers and ranchers can depend on, one that protects vulnerable children and adults in times of need and one that gives rural communities opportunities to grow and the longer-term certainty they deserve. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said he can't think of three things that are more important for rural America and agriculture than the budget, comprehensive immigration reform and the farm bill.
