Custer County ranch among top Hereford breeders in the U.S.

Ridder Hereford Ranch is ranked 4th on the 2013 Hereford Dams of Distinction list with 27 DOD cows. The list, recently released by the American Hereford Association, ranked the top 20 Hereford breeders in the United States who had the most DOD cows in their herds. Nebraska ranked 2nd among the 43 states earning this honor.

Collectively, there were 2,386 Hereford cows from 679 Hereford performance herds listed as Dams of Distinction. A Dam of Distinction cow "must meet all the job requirements for an ideal cow," according to the Association. "She should produce a healthy, growthy calf every year; she should calve as a two-year-old, and she should cause her owner absolutely no problems. A Dam of Distinction is the standard by which all Hereford cows can be judged."

Ridder Hereford Ranch is owned and operated by John and Mary Ridder of Callaway. They host a Bull and Heifer sale at their ranch on the 2nd Thursday of February each year.
