USDA Meeting For Hisplanic and Women Farmers

USDA Farm Service Agency County Executive Director Barb Cross announces a USDA informational meeting to be held on March 21, 2013 at the Guadalupe Center, 1200 E 9th St, Scottsbluff NE at 7:00 p.m. Staff from the Scottsbluff USDA Service Center, including Farm Service Agency (FSA), Rural Development (RD), and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), will present information on farm and conservation programs, business and community programs, and housing programs. Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Special guest speaker will be John Berge, Acting Deputy Administrator for Field Operations, USDA Farm Service Agency, Washington, DC, discussing the Hispanic and Women's Claims application process. "Hispanic and women farmers who believe they have faced discriminatory practices from the USDA must file a claim by March 25, 2013 in order to have a chance to receive a cash payment or loan forgiveness," said Cross.

The process offers a voluntary alternative to litigation for each Hispanic or female farmer and rancher who can provide that USDA denied their applications for loan or loan servicing assistance for discriminatory reasons for certain time periods between 1981 and 2000. Berge will answers questions and provide contact information.
