Decision Expected Any Day in COOL Case
Lawyers representing organizations in a lawsuit against current Country-of-Origin Labeling rules believe a decision in the case will come any day - according to Meatingplace. Attorney John Dillard says based on past experience - the judges for the appellate court hand down their decisions a little more than two months after arguments are presented. The North American Meat Association and other industry organizations presented their arguments in January. If the court rules in favor of the plaintiffs - COOL enforcement would be stopped while the question of if COOL is constitutional is decided in another court. Even though Congress failed to address COOL in the 2014 farm bill - Dillard says a legislative solution is still on the horizon.
