Temporary Restraining Order No Longer Needed
As a result of the lawsuit filed by the American Farm Bureau Federation and National Pork Producers Council - and their request for an emergency injunction - recent efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency to release personal and private information about livestock and poultry farmers sought by environmental groups were halted. The suit was filed July 5th as the EPA was preparing to respond to Freedom of Information Act requests with data of producers. On Wednesday - EPA informed the court it would deny the most recent requests for information - and all future requests - until the conclusion of the litigation. The lawsuit - which Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman said is about the government's unjustified intrusion into the private lives of citizens - remains in the federal court and EPA has until September 3rd to respond.
