Fiery Interstate Crash Kills Two
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a fiery semitrailer truck crash that killed two people and blocked Interstate 80 near Lincoln for nearly two hours.
The crash happened northwest of Lincoln near the Northwest 48th Street exit around noon Wednesday. The eastbound truck caught fire and emitted significant smoke.
The Nebraska State Patrol says a husband and wife, who drove the U.S. Express truck together, were killed. The woman was driving at the time of the crash.
The couple was from East Canton, Ohio. Their names weren't immediately released Wednesday afternoon.
The westbound lanes of I-80 were closed for about an hour. The eastbound lanes of the interstate didn't reopen until about 1:45 p.m.
The Northwest 48th Street exit will likely remain closed all day Wednesday while the wreckage is cleaned up.
