Truck driver's challenge in deadly I-80 accident dismissed
An Illinois truck driver charged with nine felonies in a deadly crash on I-80 near Potter last September will enter a plea next month after his challenge to the evidence in the case was dismissed Thursday
Josef Slezak will be arraigned February 7th after Cheyenne County District Court Judge Derek Weimer ruled there was probable cause the crimes alleged in the case were committed.
Slezak is charged with felony manslaughter and motor vehicle homicide after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his semi in the early morning hours of September 9. A family of four moving from Maryland to California, including the pregnant mother, were killed when the semi slammed into stopped traffic because of a previous crash.
Prosecutors believe Slezak traveled virtually straight through from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Cheyenne County prior to the accident.
