Heineman: "Fairness" to rural Nebraska a concern in state ed funding bill

Governor Dave Heineman says he has concerns about whether the state education funding bill approved by lawmakers is fair to rural Nebraska.

Jon Habben, executive director of the Nebraska Rural Schools Association, gave the bill a "C" and Heineman says the larger school districts in the state are getting almost all of the additional funding under the new formula. Heineman says that makes him hesitant to approve it.

Heineman says the formula needs more study this summer. The bill received 47-0 approval on final reading so if Heineman vetoes it, it is likely there could be enough votes to override his veto.
