Norfolk Man Killed in Feedlot Accident

A feedlot accident Monday afternoon at the Fore-Quarters feedlot east of Norfolk left one man dead and another one seriously injured.

According to the Norfolk Daily News, Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger reported 53-year-old Matthew Winkelbauer of Norfolk was struck and buried by a large falling silage pile in an open silage pit and pronounced dead at the scene. Winkelbauer was owner/operator of the feedlot.

A 60-year-old co-worker, Weldon Marotz Jr. of Stanton is hospitalized in Omaha by LifeNet helicopter after initially being taken to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Sheriff Unger says there were not witnesses to the accident and the investigation continues.
