Hells Angels murder suspect has 1st court appearance

The Scottsbluff man charged with 2nd-degree murder warrant for the death of a man last month at the Hells Angels clubhouse in Omaha made his first appearance in Douglas County Court in Omaha Wednesday morning.

47-year-old Jay Witt, who was arrested Monday in Omaha, was ordered held without bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 16th.

Prosecutors say Witt and 48-year-old William Furlong of Omaha had been fighting July 22nd when Witt shot Furlong, then trashed the clubhouse to make it appear a rival gang was responsible. A murder warrant was issued earlier this month on the 6th.

Omaha police say Witt was arrested without incident about 9:30 a.m. Monday in stolen car taken about 90-minutes earlier in Iowa and tracked to Omaha through its on-board security system.
