Creighton gets ready for Big East debut
Creighton (10-2, 0-0) play its first BIG EAST Conference game in program history when it hosts leage favorite Marquette (8-5, 0-0) on Tuesday night. Tip-off at CenturyLink in Omaha is set for 9:02 pm. Central. The game is sold out.
Creighton enters BIG EAST play wit a 10-2 record, including wins over
Nebraska, Tulsa, Arizona State, Saint Jseph's and Cal.
Creighton will be playing its fifth straight home game on Tuesay, a
stretch in which it has not trailed.
Senior Doug McDermott (24.8 ppg., 7.3 rpg., 42.3 3FG%) is the nation's
only returning consensus First Team All-American, as well as the nation's leading returning scorer. He's led the Jays in scoring and rebounding each of the past three seasons, was named Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, and has scored 20 or more points in all but one game this year.
The preseason favorite to win the BIG EAST Conference, Marquette brings an 8-5 record into Tuesday's league opener.
Two of the top three scorers are reserves, as Davante Gardnr (13.5
ppg., 6.2 rpg.) leads the team in scoring and rebounding while Tod Mayo (9.6 ppg., 2.5 rpg.) is close behind.
Jamil Wilson (11.7 ppg., 24 apg.) is the team's second-leading scorer
and also third on the club with 4.6 rebounds per contest. He left Saturay's game vs. Samford after just five minutes with what was described as right knee injury in postgame reports.
