Hooper Accident Victim Identified
An early Friday morning accident around 6:30 on Highway 275 at Hooper has left one person dead. Heavy fog in the area contributed to the crash.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office reports that a Honda Accord turning left on southbound 275 from Hooper was struck by a northbound semi, driven by 49 year old Arthur Orchard, of Omaha. The truck was registered with Fast Trac Freight Service of Omaha.
The driver of the Honda, 35-year-old Skeeter Garule, of Hooper was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic was rerouted both northbound and southbound for more than three hours after the accident.
Also in Dodge County Friday morning, 49 year old Ronald Wimer of Nickerson was attempting to cross US 77 in a pickup hauling a pig trailer when he was struck by a southbound Mazda driven by 60 year old Marvin Massman of Hooper. Both vehicles were totaled but injuries to the two men were not considered life threatening.
And in Stanton County a two vehicle crash sent two people to a Norfolk hospital around 6:30. Around 13 miles east of Norfolk, a northbound pickup on 586th Avenue driven by 21 year old Rusty Martens of Pilger, pulled into the path of a westbound car on Highway 275, driven by 67 year old Sandra Ostrand of Pender. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
