Truck driver's trial in fatal I-80 crash set for September
A week and a half long trial has been scheduled in September for a 36 year old Illinois truck driver charged with nine felonies in a deadly crash on I-80 near Potter last September . 36 year old James Slezak's trial will be from September 9th through September 20th, according to a release Wednesday from the Cheyenne County Attorney's office. Slezak entered not guilty plea during his arraignment this past February in Cheyenne County District Court.
Slezak is charged with four counts of felony manslaughter and five counts of motor vehicle homicide after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his semi in the early morning hours of September 9. A family of four moving from Maryland to California, including the pregnant mother, were killed when the semi slammed into stopped traffic because of a previous crash.
Prosecutors believe Slezak traveled virtually straight through from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Cheyenne County prior to the accident.
A hearing on pre-trial motions is scheduled May 8th at 8:30
