Fischer 'Out of Patience" With Shinseki
President Barack Obama says if there's misconduct at the Department of Veterans Affairs, it will be punished. But Obama is also asking for patience while investigators get to the bottom of what happened.
The V-A is under fresh scrutiny following allegations that as many as 40 veterans may have died while awaiting treatment at a Phoenix hospital. There are also allegations that the hospital staff, at the instruction of administrators, kept a secret list of patients waiting for appointments to hide delays in care.
During her weekly conference call with reporters today, Senator Deb Fischer said she still wants V-A Secretary Eric Shinseki gone.
"There is no leadership, there is no accountabilty," Fischer said.
"You can hear the president and the secretary say they're 'mad as hell over this' .. well the American people are too. And I understand the president is asking for patience. I'm out of patience, Nebraskans are out of patience, Americans are out of patience. And we need to fill that leadership void that is there right now in the V-A."
